New firmware for Xperia Z and ZL Bring Significant Performance Improvement


Latest firmware for the Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL are now becoming available. ROMs for these devices carry the same increase in parts of the system, signaling and sensitivity to touch, bug fixes. This ROM is based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

No mention is officially on record amendments (change log), but the number of users who have used it convey any such changes:

  • Animation booth more subtle
  • RAM management is more efficient
  • Home launcher is now much smoother without lag
  • New interface in the Update Center
  • Improved 3G signal
  • Touch response is much improved
  • Sleep and wake faster
  • Improved low-light image quality
  • There is no screen flickering
  • etc.


Quoted from GSMArena, according to one source, this change makes the handset becomes hotter when doing AnTuTu benchmark. However, there has been no similar complaints from other users. This update can be downloaded via OTA or Sony PC.
