Samsung Begins Mass Production of 3GB RAM Chip for Smartphones

Samsung Electronics announced the start of mass production of DRAM chips 3GB Low Power Double Data Rate 3 (LPDDR3) first for mobile devices. The chip is made through a 20 nanometer process and is found on the device which was announced in the second half of 2013. Each module consists of six 0.5 GB chips are stacked on each other in two sets, and is connected to the processor via two symmetrical data transfer channels. In theory, this will result in faster performance because each pin is capable of transferring up to 2,133 Mbps.

With the thinner size, free space is available in a mobile device will certainly become more widespread and can be used for large-capacity battery. In addition, the amount of RAM capacity also allows users to enjoy faster multitasking and more, Full HD video playback, and a significant increase in speed on LTE-A network standard (LTE Advanced).

According to Samsung, the first device with 3GB of RAM will be launched in the second half of this year. "Mobile DRAM 3GB will be used in the most recent high-end smartphones that began in the second half of this year. We will also be developing a new DRAM chip bebasiskan 3GB LPDDR3 where there will be a 6GB LPDDR3 with two positions are mutually berampingan chip, which will improve performance smartphone next level until the end of the year, "said Young-Hyun Jun, the Executive VP of Memory Sales & Marketing, Samsung Electronics.

Some people believe that Samsung's latest phablet, Galaxy Note III, is the first device that will bring the 3GB RAM.
